Supernatural 5 Year Nappiversary

Venue Dotzack
Description The Soulition & All Props Deserved present S U P E R N A T U R A L :: 5-Year Nappiversary :: ++++ On the evening of Saturday October 21st, join us as we celebrate 5 years of SUPERNATURAL! Yes, we've been giving long over-due props to the many dope styles of black natural hair through an unapologetically afro-cultural party since 2012 and we don't plan on stopping anytime soon. Shout to all who've experienced the vibe at any one of our previous 12 events, and if you're new to the party, peep the steelo.... SUPERNATURAL is a party celebrating the beauty, flyness and all-around badass style of black natural hair. It's an event not only to show off fly natural 'dos, but it also serves as a welcoming party to any recently natural individuals who may feel alone in their natural-hair journey. A common thread in a number of black women's stories starting from the "big chop" (cutting off permed hair to grow their hair naturally) to where they are currently is the negativity they tend to encounter from family and friends. Few realize how alone and uncertain the process of going (back) natural can be for those who don't already have a circle of encouraging loved ones to lift them up - particularly women. For many, it may seem there isn't an accessible community they can lean on for support and be inspired. But there is and we figure why not have a party to welcome them into that community? Anytime one has the courage to embrace their natural hair in today's society, it's cause for celebration as far as we're concerned, so SUPERNATURAL is here Setting the mood with Afrobeat, Afro-House, Latin, Dancehall, Hip-Hop, Trap, Bounce, Afro-Pop and more will be Supernatural creator James Biko (aka DJ Needles) of The Soulition, resident Supernatural selector Blvck Spvde and special guest DJ, Atlanta's own Hourglass of WERC Crew ----------------------------------- Hourglass (WERC Crew, Atlanta) Early in life, Charlotte, NC native Hourglass learned that aside from family and a few close friends, the staple in her life was her passion for music. After graduating from Washington University in St. Louis, Hourglass decided to utilize her business degree in a less conventional way than her peers. In 2011, Hourglass founded a blog devoted to promoting new talent in music. Soon after, she became one of the editors and moderators of popular Hip Hop startup and served as Music Editor for All of these jobs helped her discover her love for mixing music, and there’s been no looking back since her first gig in 2012. After working her way into the dj booths of Atlanta’s most notable venues without any major backing, Hourglass has found a family in WERC Crew, an event production collective of creative curators and influencers. With WERC, Hourglass not only performs, but plans and executes each event with her partners from beginning to end. Currently, Hourglass is a resident DJ at Atlanta venues El Bar and Negril Village. Most recently, Hourglass graced the Toyota DJ stage of the A3C Festival, performed at SXSW Festival along with One Music Fest, Afropunk’s Red Bull Sound Select, Milk & Cookies Fest, and Afropunk ATL: The Carnival of Consciousness. A concrete rose who has found her place in a community full of talent using her motto “Think Outside the Clock,” Hourglass’s style ranges from future beats and house to reggae, hip hop, top 40, and everything in between. ++++ S U P E R N A T U R A L :: 5-Year Nappiversary :: Saturday October 21st, 2017 .Zack in Grand Center 3224 Locust St (4th FL) 9:00pm til 1am $7 Adv Tix: - or - $10 at the door #supernatural #supernaturalparty #sprntrl #sprntrlprty
